How to enable remote desktop (for remote access) on Windows 8

Following are the steps to enable remote desktop access for a Windows 8 machine:

  • Open "charm" menu (move your mouse to top-left corner)
  • Hit on "Search" (magnifying glass) icon and you will see search bar as shown below

  • In the "Search" panel, select "Settings" as shown below

  • Type "Remote" in the search text box and select "Allow remote access to your Computer" as shown below:

  • You will be shown with "System Properties" window focusing on "Remote" tab.
  • Select "Allow remote connections to this computer"
  • Select "Allow connections only from computers running Remote Desktop with Network Level Authentication"
  • Click on "OK" (or "Apply")

And now, you can remote into machine using your Microsoft account/email and password (not for enterprises)
